See Gavin “Tweek” Dempsey’s Smash Ultimate 7.0 Tier List

Unlike many of the other top Smash Ultimate players who’ve recently released tier lists, Gavin “Tweek” Dempsey has experience playing a wide range of the game’s characters. In the past year, he’s brought out Young Link, Roy, Wario, Pokemon Trainer, Wolf, and Joker. So he’s seen the game from a number of different angles, and he knows it inside and out. This gives him a solid perspective from which to build a tier list.

Some of his opinions are consistent with the general consensus. In particular, Dempsey puts Pikachu and Joker in his top two and reserves his bottom slot for Little Mac. One surprising pick is Inkling, who lands in the number-three slot. In particular, Dempsey talks up the Splatoon character’s layered offense. Inkling may not have the results yet, but remember that tier lists are meant to be both descriptive and predictive. That is, while tier lists do have to account for what has already happened, they’re also supposed to tell us what will happen (or can happen) in the future as the meta develops.

Of course, we’ll have to wait a little while to see if Dempsey is right about Inkling. Until COVID-19 recedes, his opinions will remain theoretical.
