Twitch And Smash.gg Team Up To Create New Super Smash Bros. World Tour

The combined prize pool will be $250,000 - without any money from Nintendo

By Eli Horowitz • March 1, 2020

In a delightfully surprising announcement today, the Smash community learned that it would finally be getting its own World Tour – just not one that’s sponsored by Nintendo. Instead, Twitch and smash.gg are sponsoring the Smash World Tour, which will give players in both Ultimate and Melee the chance to compete for a combined prize pool of $250,000.

Right now, the tour plans to extend across twenty-six events, including a championship event in mid-December. Each event counts as either Platinum, Gold, or Silver, with each rank contributing to a player’s final standing. The international series will feature tournaments in the US, the UK, France, Japan, Canada, Australia, and Mexico – and that’s just the beginning. Unlike many other pro tours, the Smash World Tour will allow tournaments to opt in to the action, which makes this tour very dynamic and community-driven.

The action starts in just two weeks at CEO Dreamland. To learn more about the Smash World Tour, visit its official website here and check out the grand reveal below.
